The SVMPO Board has scheduled a Work Session on April 25th at 3:00 p.m. SVMPO Work Sessions are informal meetings where Board members have an opportunity to discuss in depth topics of regional concern among themselves. This Work Session will discuss the relationship of the SVMPO with its member jurisdictions and its agreement with the City of Sierra Vista. Staff and agency presentations may be made to provide information to the Board to consider. These meetings are open to the public but time is not reserved for public comment. Members of the public may attend in person, or by phone, and may share written comments on this SVMPO website.

Welcoming a SVMPO Intern!
The SVMPO welcomes Ms. Catarina Porter, a Civil Engineering student from BYU, Idaho, for a 7 month internship. Ms. Porter is in her Sophomore year at BYU and is interested in the policy and planning aspects of developing transportation projects. She will be assisting the SVMPO in updating our regional employment database, a transit stop inventory and supporting active projects that are being initiated this Spring.
SVMPO Approves 2019 Public Participation Plan
The SVMPO Board approved the 2019 update of their Public Participation Plan on January 17, 2019. This Public Participation Plan had been released for public review and comment in early December. Comments from member jurisdiction PIOs were included in a section about the role of the jurisdictions in future public outreach efforts of the MPO. Public review comments were incorporated into the plan narrative and outreach strategies and were also summarized in Appendix B of the final Plan.
SVMPO welcomes new administrator

The Sierra Vista Metropolitan Planning Organization (SVMPO) will welcome its new administrator on Thursday, Sept. 20, at its regularly scheduled board meeting.
The SVMPO board selected Karen Lamberton as SVMPO administrator after a nine-month recruitment and interview process. Lamberton previously served as Cochise County’s Transportation Planner. Prior to coming on board with Cochise County, she worked on long-range transportation planning activities for Pima Association of Governments, in Tucson, Arizona. Lamberton holds a master’s degree in Planning from the University of Arizona and has been certified in that field since July, 2000.
The Sierra Vista Metropolitan Planning Organization was formed in 2012 when the Sierra Vista region met the urbanized population threshold of over 50,000. Regional government agencies were first created by federal legislation in the early 1970s to enhance regional communication with the goal of building a connected transportation system with limited federal, state, and local dollars. Today the SVMPO includes the Town of Huachuca City and reaches to the Coronado National Forest boundaries, representing a population of more than 70,400.
“The interview panel was very impressed with Ms. Lamberton’s credentials” says Sierra Vista Mayor Rick Mueller, chair of the SVMPO board. “Lamberton has been a proactive champion for developing a safe and effective transportation system in southern Arizona for several decades.”
“I am looking forward to working with the SVMPO board on innovative solutions for transportation and economic development in the greater Sierra Vista region,” Lamberton says.
